Since the earliest days of credit card usage, there have been myths and rumors floating about by a bunch of people who really have either nothing better to do, have no common sense, or like to make themselves seem smarter than they really are. It’s kind of like your cousin who said that he caught a 75 pound tuna in the swimming hole in his backyard; did you believe him? Teaching Your Child about Credit

We spend the majority of our children’s teen years teaching them about the dangers of smoking, drugs and alcohol, talking about the opposite sex, and preparing them for college, but not a whole lot of time is spent on teaching them about credit. Is it because we feel that credit doesn’t cause as much damage as drugs, or the knowledge will come when they go to college? Simply telling our kids that credit cards are bad is not going to work, as kids have always rebelled against straight “no’s”. We need to instill values in our kids about the good and bad parts of credit.

A Beginner’s Guide to Credit Cards

Over 80% of the households in the United States have at least one credit card, mostly because they offer convenience and a feeling of added security over other payment methods. After all, most of us have watched television and seen the commercial of the lady walking down the beach, when her wide brimmed, light blue sun hat is caught by a passing gust of wind and tossed into the sea. This particular lady got brand new hat, courtesy of the credit card she used for purchasing it.
